Big Trouble

So I really hate getting in trouble! I am the type of person that when I do get in trouble, you really don't have to punish me. I already know what I did wrong and I know not to do it again. So why do some police officers think they have to be mean & feel like they have to punish people when they make mistakes?

Sadly, I got pulled over here in Cali for the 2nd time in my life. (The 1st time was a simple mistake & I got away with a warning, but it was enough!) So there I was in San Dimas, California, I just got done visiting this really fun new friend that I found here! I got a little lost on the way home and I always get flustered when I get lost. So I just picked up the cell phone and called her real quick to see what way I was supposed to turn. I was talking to her and all of a sudden saw a police car. Crap! Yeah it was only then that I remembered that it is a illegal to talk on your cell phone here. So I hurried, said I would call her right back and that there was a cop & PANICKED! I wasn't sure if they would get me for it so I hurried and pulled into a CVS parking lot since that is what I should have been doing. Well the officer saw me & flipped a fast one & pulled in right behind me in the parking lot. It was a "she" and she said that she pulled me over for 2 reasons, #1 I was talking on my phone & #2 I didn't signal when I pulled into the parking lot. Crap again! I of course pleaded my cause, I have only been here for 3 weeks and totally keep forgetting about that law & was really flustered when I did it! I think that is understandable, it seriously didn't even cross my mind that it was illegal at the time. She was very quick to point out that I have a California license plate and asked if I owned the vehicle. (She wasn't very understanding) So I quickly replied that we just got registered here, hence the Cali license plate. Sheesh! Yeah it didn't fly. THEN I couldn't remember where the registration was because I didn't put it in the car. I gave her my insurance card & license while I finally calmed down enough to look in the glove compartment - lo & behold! There it was, my good husband Craig put it there. So I got out to go hand it to her in her car & that was my 3rd mistake. She forcefully asked me to please go back to my car, after I quietly explained that I found my registration she let me give it to her though. I just thought I was being helpful:) After 20 min (it felt like an hour) of waiting she came back and told me to "sign this", didn't really know what "this was" so I made my plea again, didn't work. I signed a citation saying that I would show up to court in October? Still don't really understand the system here but hopefully I can appeal or just get traffic school, I would seriously just take traffic school in a heartbeat! I'm all about getting it over with & moving on. Anyways, there was a little more to the story & she wasn't that nice but oh well. I was feeling so bad on my "longest drive home" and thought Craig was going to be upset with me but he just laughed the story when I told him. I was glad he found it comical but I was still a little bummed.

So what I learned: don't talk on your cell phone here, you'll never win with a girl cop & don't panick if you DO get pulled over....

Ouch. California cops definately have a bad reputation. I wish there were more 'good' cops out there. I can imagine what they have to go through w/ people lying to them and dealing w/ crazy situations, but I still think they can be nice to the normal people.

Sorry to hear that she wasn't nice. I was hoping that if she saw you pregnant she might have sympathy. Apparently not!!

P.S. Didn't know it was against the law to talk on your cell phone while driving in California. Good to know!!

Girl cops drive me bonkers. Actually, most women in "authority" positions drive me crazy. Speaker phone baby, speaker phone.
